Eurail summary

Hi there!! My trip to Luxembourg was my last of 10 travel days with my Eurail pass! This doesn’t mean I’m done travelling but it does mean that train travel won’t be as convenient as it once was…

But I figured a summary post was due!!

So here are the stats, calculated by the Eurail app itself:

Number of countries visited: 5

Number of cities visited: 18

Distance travelled: 3,525km

Number of trains: 35

Time on trains: 42 hours, 17 minutes

And a couple of my own statistics:

Number of cancelled trains: 2 - not non-coincidentally, the same train route just on different days :( note to anyone that may need it: it is my firm belief that the ICE train #16 between Frankfurt and Brussels does not actually exist

Coolest train station: Antwerp - if heaven is real, the gates are based off of this train station

Coolest train: not one in particular but double decker trains are my favourite

Nicest train views: route from Brussels - Dinant - there was some very nice rock scenery

Coolest train technology: the ICE seat reservation technology

Best train app: the SNCB app (only works in Belgium but it is very accurate). Or pocket trains but that's just a fun game and has nothing to do with train travel.

And a couple of my favourite train memories:

  1. Travelling with Kimmy by train :) On our first train day figuring out how the ICE seat reservation technology works and that you can’t just sit anywhere, but thinking that travelling my train is so ideal!! Then on our second train day, figuring out that trains are not always so ideal. And this lead to what seemed like the LONGEST travel day from Cologne to Ghent that was actually Cologne to Aachen to Welkenraedt to Ghent, with many added hours.

  2. Watching silly people on the trains. Remember the lady in pyjamas that got literally thrown off the train? Or recently, I watched a man eat an entire loaf of French bread, unsliced and topped it by adding chocolate squares to each bite.

  3. Telling myself that I’m going to be productive on my long train days. I always have such good intentions by bringing my laptop and iPad and a long to do list then I end up not accomplishing anything!

Ok so convenient train travel will now be slightly less convenient but I’m taking that as an excuse to take up convenient air travel… I have a couple days off of school this week so I am hopping over to Dublin for a couple of days!

Side note: I edited the homepage of this website to have a “travel tracker” with all the cool places I’ve been with a nice map if you want to check that out!
