A Thanksgiving post

Hi there! I know Canadian Thanksgiving was last weekend so I'm a little late... But I'm early for American Thanksgiving... And European Thanksgiving doesn't exist so actually I am right on time!

This week was a typical school week and we didn't get Monday off because as I said, European Thanksgiving isn't a thing :( So instead of eating my body weight in turkey and pumpkin pie I was sitting in class, digesting complicated immuno-biological pathways :(

This week I've gotten homesick for the first time, and all because I love Thanksgiving. I think this is the first year, in my entire life where I haven't had a Thanksgiving dinner! Sure some years haven't been the typical Thanksgiving dinner but there's always a bunch of people sitting around a big table having a grand ol' time together. So that was making me a bit sad so to cheer up, I tried to find as many Thanksgiving traditions as I could in Ghent.

My first stop was to find pumpkin pie, I checked out two bakeries and a store that exclusively sells pies, but there was no pumpkin pie to be found. So I took to Google instead and found a Cinnamon bun bakery owned by an American and this month, their special is Pumpkin Cheesecake. This is the best Ghent could do, but I'm pretty happy with the results!

I headed over to Ma's Bakery and had a slice of the cheesecake and it did not disappoint! It was just as dense as normal Pumpkin Pie, maybe a bit creamier but I'll take it! It was really good!

The American was a little confused as to why I was trying to celebrate an entire month early but then I explained I was Canadian and she was still confused. But she wished me a happy Thanksgiving anyway and even gave me a free apple pie cinnamon bun to celebrate! That's the spirit of Thanksgiving I was missing!

For the final stop of my Thanksgiving adventure, I headed to Nespresso where they had just launched their limited edition pumpkin spice cake coffee pods. I enjoyed a latte and bought 20 of the pods so I can keep Thanksgiving going at home too!

So happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate at this time of year! Not to get too sappy on you but this time of year is the time to think about all that we're thankful for so:

I am very thankful to be getting to have this crazy cool experience in Europe, and I'm very thankful for all of the people who made it possible for me to be here, and for all those who encourage me and support me. I am very thankful to have friends, family and loved ones back home who read my blog, chat with me and make me feel loved! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

PS. I am also thankful that the monthly special next month is actual pumpkin pie (Go America!)

PPS. Yes, I am aware that I said "Thanksgiving" 15 times in the blog post, whoops, but also super whoops because I didn't realize that "Thanksgiving" is capitalized so I had to fix that 15 times. And look at that, now the count is up to 17!
